Eph 4:15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— Eph 4:16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

Truth needs to be spoken, but not baldly, rather ‘in love’, because on it’s own it can be brutal. Truthfulness is no atonement for cruelty. The phrase ‘At least I’m being honest’, is generally an excuse for someone being unkind. Love covers a multitude of faults. Speaking truth causes growth, in every area. This growth is upwards into Christ, whereas the growth of every part doing it’s share, and every part does have a share, causes the growth of the church at large.

The church is joined together by what each person supplies to the other. Every connection brings something to the church. We serve one another when we serve the church. The body is effective when every part does its share. The church is made stronger when it grows.

Isolated people don’t grow up. The fight to grow and change is the fight to remain connected.

If you just keep turning up, many of your problems will be solved. Being immersed in the church brings us into the ‘power’ of the church to transform our lives.

Romans 8:5 (NKJV)

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

We fulfill the requirements of God when we walk in the Spirit. The key to living in the Holy Spirit is to ‘set your mind on the things of the Spirit’. If our mind dwells on the things of the flesh, then we will live in the flesh.

This is a general rule in life; our thoughts determine our walk.

The ‘things’ of the Spirit are; the Word; Worship; Prayers; Ministry; Fellowship. These are things to not just know about but are things we ‘do’ – as in read the Word, sing worship songs, pray, fellowship, and do the work of the ministry.

When the flesh sends an impulse to do something, and we follow that impulse we are walking in the flesh. We need to not follow the impulses of the flesh, crucifying our flesh and its passions. This means denying ourselves those things we want to do. But when the Spirit prompts us to pray, we need to follow that impulse and so we learn to walk in the Spirit. If our mind is continually on the things of the flesh we will follow those impulses, but if it is on the Spirit, then we will follow those.

All the energy, wisdom, blessing we can get, comes from the Spirit. If we live in Him we will access all of these. Apart from the Spirit we can become fatigued, short on wisdom and work hard without favor and blessing on our efforts.

To live in the Spirit is to walk in the Spirit. This is to walk at the same pace, not faster, nor slower; walk in the same direction; this is making decisions in harmony with the Spirit, which are only discovered by the heart that is surrendered, believing and obedient.

Are you living in the Spirit?  My book ‘Moving in the Spirit’ can help you move towards a powerful relationship with Him.

2Co 3:17  For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

Evidence of the presence of the Holy Spirit is freedom. He sets people free from fear, from addictions and from not being free to control their own lives. We do not come under the control of the Holy Spirit when He fills us. Rather we gain self-control, free to make decisions that will change our lives.

The word religion means to bind. Life in the Spirit is not religious, binding, but neither is it without order. Some people have imagined that the more chaotic their lives are, the more evidence there is of the Holy Spirit. However, The Spirit brought order to chaos in creation, not more chaos. Order brings security and freedom. Religion brings bondage because the spirit of it is not based on grace but laws, that teach the only way to please God is to be a perfect law keeper.

Rom8:15  For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”
